Hello world!

Welcome to the new home of my blogages.

It’s a good, practical home. I’d consider it less of a large, family home full of ornate dust collectors, and more of a condo in the city that comes fully furnished. I picture it with floor-to-ceiling windows and post-modern Swedish furniture…

Where shall I start?

Biking season is in full swing for me and I’m having more fun on my two-wheeled friends than I have in a long time. I credit my enthusiasm to a few great rides on the Dakine team photoshoot in Oregon and the “Torpedo Trail” in Victoria. Thank you CRD. Thank you. Too bad I won’t be here for the rest of the summer to ride it, but it’s been a slice since I’ve been home these past two weeks.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m getting my master’s degree in intercultural communications at Royal Roads University and I was recently selected to a) make a film for my final thesis and b) present a short film that I made at the International Symposium on Symbolic Interactionism in Italy. What? You don’t know what that means? Don’t worry, neither do I really. It’s a communication theory about how stuff means things.

In the meantime, I’ve started working with the social justice organization Because I am a Girl. http://www.becauseiamagirl.ca  – Check it out. I’m going to be more heavily involved in the program soon and with this new fully furnished blog I will be better at keeping you updated on what’s new in becauseiamagirl land.

Hmm, what else? I leave for Italy for my presentation in a week, fly home for 12 hours, fly to Wales for Ride Guide filming, fly home for 1 week, then fly to Sweden for Mattias Fredrikkson’s photo comp and the Are bike festival. Three Europe trips in a month and a half = lots of airmiles and plenty of jet lag. Please submit your best jet lag remedies below. The winner will win having me use their suggestion. How’s that for a grand prize?!

Ok, time to go for a bike ride to the pool, have a swim, and then research about how imagined nationhood plays a vital role to the vagabond traveller.

See your blog-scanning eyes soon!

About hellodarcy

I like bodies of water, piles of earth (the snowy or trail-laden type), two-wheeled human-powered machines, forests, waves and the things that ride them, powder days, Michel Gondry videos, trying to make videos like Michel Gondry videos, passing the pages of story books through my occipital lobe and into my cerebral cortex, cats (particularly mine), what's at the other end of a long plane ride, wandering, pulling paintbrushes over things, unknowns, going really fast, weightlessness, body moving, bobbing, music listening, music playing, the earth and all the people who borrow it from their grandchildren. I am a pro freeride mountain biker and I have a degree in Geography and Environmental Studies...soon to be outdone by an MA in Intercultural Communication. I also host and produce television shows. Please see my website www.hellodarcy.com for more details! Happy blog-reading.
